What Kilimanjaro costs in 2026: every operator's published price
Prices checked Published "from" prices, per person
Bucket-list trips. Every operator's price. This guide puts every current Kilimanjaro price we have on file in one place: 40 packages from 7 operators, each one a "from" price per person, as published on the operator's own website. We checked them all on 3 November 2026. Prices change, so always confirm the current price and what it includes with the operator before you book.
The short answer
As published by the operators and checked on 3 November 2026, a Kilimanjaro climb runs from US$1,956 to US$3,869 per person. The middle of the 40 listings (the median) is about US$2,755 per person, halfway between the two middle listings at US$2,749 and US$2,760.
That spread is wide because the listings are not like for like. They cover five to twelve days on the mountain, seven routes, group departures and private climbs, different group sizes, and departures in 2026 and 2027. The useful question is not "what does Kilimanjaro cost?" but "what does the climb I want cost, and what is included?" The sections below break the prices down so you can answer that.
To filter these listings yourself by route, days, group type and inclusions, use the Kilimanjaro price comparison.
How these prices were collected
Every figure here is the lowest "from" price an operator publishes for that package on its own website, per person, in US dollars. Where an operator publishes a lower price for a bigger group, we show that lowest published price and say which group size it applies to. Where an operator publishes in another currency we show the US dollar equivalent (Kandoo Adventures publishes in British pounds). These are not quotes and they do not include promo codes. What you see is what the operator published, with the date we checked it.
That means a few things to keep in mind:
- "From" means the lowest price shown. Your price can be higher depending on date, group size, season and extras.
- Altezza Travel's prices here are its published 2026 "Classic" prices for a private climb with a group of 8 or more. A smaller group or a solo climber pays more per person, so check the price for your own group size.
- Private climbs marked "lowest shown" are the bottom of a price range. The bottom of a private range usually assumes more people sharing the climb, so check the group size behind the number.
- Some listings cover 2027 departures, such as Peak Planet's 12-day Northern Circuit group climb (August 2027). Operators often raise prices year to year.
- The comparison table also carries one Ultimate Kilimanjaro 7-day Machame group price (US$2,799) whose only listed departure dates have already passed. We have left it out of this guide until the operator publishes new dates for it.
Our full method is on the methodology page.
Kilimanjaro price by route
Here is the lowest and highest published price per route, per person, as checked on 3 November 2026.
- Marangu Route: 4 listings, from US$1,956 to US$2,760. The only route with huts instead of tents, and the only one that goes up and down the same way.
- Machame Route: 9 listings, from US$2,364 to US$3,029. The most popular camping route.
- Lemosho Route: 9 listings, from US$2,422 to US$3,629. Approaches from the west across the Shira Plateau, then joins Machame.
- Rongai Route: 6 listings, from US$2,442 to US$3,044. The only northern approach, quieter and drier.
- Umbwe Route: 3 listings, from US$2,387 to US$2,694. The steepest, most direct route, with little time to acclimatise.
- Shira Route: 1 listing, from US$2,613. Starts high on the Shira Plateau by 4x4.
- Northern Circuit: 8 listings, from US$3,123 to US$3,869. The longest route, circling the quiet northern slopes.
The cheapest route on paper is Marangu, partly because it is often sold as a five-day climb. That is also the shortest, with the weakest acclimatisation profile. Which leads to the bigger driver of price.
Kilimanjaro price by number of days
Days on the mountain matter more than the route for most people's chance of reaching the summit. More days means more time to acclimatise, and it also means more park fees, more food and more crew wages, so the price goes up.
Published prices by length, as checked on 3 November 2026:
- 5 days: 2 listings, from US$1,956 to US$2,022
- 6 days: 11 listings, from US$2,307 to US$2,760
- 7 days: 4 listings, from US$2,657 to US$2,749
- 8 days: 5 listings, from US$2,459 to US$3,299
- 9 days: 10 listings, from US$2,681 to US$3,649
- 10 days: 3 listings, from US$3,039 to US$3,169
- 11 days: 3 listings, from US$3,289 to US$3,590
- 12 days: 2 listings, from US$3,619 to US$3,869
Notice that longer does not always mean pricier across operators. The cheapest eight-day listing (US$2,459) is lower than the cheapest seven-day one (US$2,657). Each operator prices differently, and some prices assume a bigger group, so it pays to compare the length you want across all of them rather than assume.
Our view, which the Kilimanjaro hub explains in more detail: choose the number of days first, then the route. Seven or eight days gives most people a materially better chance than five or six.
Group climbs vs private climbs
Of the 40 listings, 14 are group departures on fixed dates and 26 are private climbs.
- Group climbs: from US$2,681 to US$3,869 per person, as checked on 3 November 2026.
- Private climbs: from US$1,956 to US$3,619 per person, as checked on 3 November 2026.
On a group departure, guides, transport and some crew costs are shared, which tends to bring the per-person price down. Private climbs let you choose your date and pace. In this data, though, private is not always dearer: Peak Planet's 8-Day Machame (private) is listed from US$2,459 per person, below its 8-Day Machame group departure from US$3,029, because the private figure is the bottom of a range. The lowest private prices here are short climbs, the bottom of a range, or a price for a private group of 8 or more, so check how many climbers the price assumes.

Why Kilimanjaro prices differ so much
Every licensed operator pays the same fixed costs for each climber: Kilimanjaro National Park fees, camping or hut fees, the rescue fee and VAT on services. They are charged per climber, and most of them per day, which is a big part of why longer climbs cost more. Because those costs are the same for everyone, a much cheaper price has to save money somewhere else. Usually it is one of these:
- Crew pay and conditions. Porter wages, loads, food and kit vary a lot between companies. The Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) monitors partner operators for fair treatment, and partnership is one of the few independent signals you can check.
- Inclusions. Airport transfers, hotel nights before and after, a portable toilet tent, emergency oxygen and quality of tents and food are all optional extras for some operators and standard for others.
- Group size. A price for a shared group departure, or for a private climb with several people, is lower per person than a solo private climb.
- Departure year. A 2027 price and a 2026 price are not directly comparable.
None of this means the cheapest listing is bad or the most expensive is good. It means you need to compare what you get, not just the headline number.
What to check in any Kilimanjaro quote
Before you pay a deposit, ask the operator to confirm in writing:
- That park fees, camping or hut fees, the rescue fee and VAT are all included in the price.
- How many days are on the mountain, and how many nights in a hotel are included before and after.
- Whether airport transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport are included.
- The guide-to-climber ratio and how many porters will be on your climb.
- Whether there is a portable toilet tent and emergency oxygen.
- What the crew is paid and whether the company is a KPAP partner.
- What tipping the crew normally comes to, so you can budget for it. Tips are usually not included.
- The cancellation and refund terms, and what happens if you need to descend early.
If a quote leaves any of these vague, ask. A good operator will answer clearly.
Costs that are not in the headline price
The package price covers the climb. Your total trip will also include some or all of these, depending on the operator:
- International flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport
- A Tanzanian visa, if your nationality needs one
- Travel insurance that covers trekking to the altitude of the summit and evacuation
- Tips for guides, cooks and porters
- Gear you do not already own, such as a warm sleeping bag, down jacket and boots (many operators rent gear locally)
- Extra hotel nights, or a safari added on after the climb
We do not put numbers on these because they depend on where you fly from and what you already own. Add them to your budget before you compare operators.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to climb Kilimanjaro in 2026?
As published by the operators and checked on 3 November 2026, the 40 current packages we track run from US$1,956 to US$3,869 per person, with a median of about US$2,755 per person. The right figure for you depends on the number of days, the route, your group size, and whether you join a group or climb privately. Confirm the current price with the operator.
What is the cheapest way to climb Kilimanjaro?
The lowest prices on file are short climbs. Altezza Travel's five-day Marangu climb is published from US$1,956 per person for a private group of 8 or more, and Zara Tanzania Adventures' five-day Marangu climb from US$2,022 per person, both checked on 3 November 2026. Short climbs give your body less time to adjust to altitude, so the cheapest climb is not always the best value. Compare seven- and eight-day climbs too: some start from less than shorter ones.
Are park fees included in Kilimanjaro prices?
Inclusions vary by operator and are not always listed the same way. Before you book, ask for written confirmation that park, camping or hut, and rescue fees are all included in the price you are paying.
Is a group climb cheaper than a private climb?
It usually is, because transport, guides and some crew costs are shared across more climbers. Not always, though: the bottom of a private price range, or a private price for a large group, can undercut a group departure. A private climb gives you your own date and pace, and its per-person price usually falls as more people join your private group.
Do I need a guide to climb Kilimanjaro?
Yes. Every climber on Kilimanjaro must be accompanied by a licensed guide, and climbs are booked through licensed operators. You cannot climb independently.
How current are these prices?
Each price shows the date we checked it on the operator's website, 3 November 2026. Operators change prices and some listings are for 2027 departures. Treat these as a starting point and confirm the price with the operator before booking.
